This website was created to pay tribute to one the most infamous roads in North Central Illinois. Our purpose is to document historical events and share the tales that Spook Road has inspired.

Tales and Folklore
As we share stories old and new, it’s important to note that we do not endorse or verify any information as fact. Undocumented stories of Spook road have been shared for close to a century. There are 100’s of different flavors of the same stories floating around out there.  We do our best to aggregate the stories and generalize their meanings rather than share each nuanced personal experience.

History
Most of the documented, factual history of surrounding area of Spook Road is related to the Indian Creek Massacre. The massacre site is clearly marked on the map along with it’s monument located at Shabonah park located roughly 2 miles from the massacre site.

Visiting Spook Road

We are not recommending anyone visit Spook Road. It is all private property and trespassing is strictly prohibited. Please respect the residents and the surrounding area. We do recommend you visit Shabonah County Park (marked on the map) where the Indian Creek Massacre monument stands. It’s a quiet secluded park that has parking, the monument, and a small pond where you can stretch your legs and enjoy the scenery.
